Head of Market Conduct

About the role

The Head of Market Conduct will report to the Chief Executive and lead NZ RegCo’s market conduct and oversight activities. This senior position is responsible for managing a team, driving advocacy, and delivering initiatives that ensure fair, orderly, and transparent markets.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee proactive market oversight and monitoring of listed issuers.
• Lead identification, investigation, and enforcement of potential breaches of NZX market rules, providing recommendations to the CEO and Board.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive market advocacy and education on compliance and best‑practice conduct.
• Prepare and manage cases referred to the NZ Markets Disciplinary Tribunal.
• Produce accurate internal and external reports for board review, regulatory bodies, media enquiries, and annual reporting.
• Contribute to NZ RegCo’s strategic initiatives and support broader NZX projects.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in compliance and/or regulation within financial services or capital markets.
• Tertiary qualification in law and eligibility for a practising certificate (preferred).
• Demonstrated management or mentoring capability.
• Strong knowledge of capital market structures, products, and terminology.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with senior stakeholders.
• Robust personality, ability to influence senior levels, and sound regulatory judgment.
