Finance Manager – 2IC Finance Leadership Role

About the role

We are seeking a senior finance professional to serve as Finance Manager and second‑in‑command to the Head of Finance at Briscoe Group, a leading NZX‑listed retailer. The role combines hands‑on financial reporting, planning, compliance and climate‑related reporting with leadership of the finance team.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the trusted 2IC to the Head of Finance, ensuring continuity and leadership across the finance function.
• Lead, coach and develop the finance team to deliver high‑quality reporting and analysis.
• Oversee accurate monthly, interim and annual financial reporting in line with NZX, IFRS and statutory requirements.
• Manage climate‑related disclosures, sustainability oversight and preparation of Board and Audit & Risk Committee materials.
• Partner with senior leaders on budgeting, forecasting, performance analysis and decision support.
• Provide technical accounting advice, commercial insight and clear financial recommendations.
• Drive process, system and control improvements to reduce risk and increase efficiency.
• Support audit readiness, treasury and insurance activities as needed.

Required profile

• CA/CPA or equivalent professional qualification.
• Extensive experience in financial reporting, technical accounting and IFRS within a listed or large corporate environment.
• Proven leadership experience with a track record of coaching finance teams.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to influence senior business leaders.
• Analytical, problem‑solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
