Finance Business Partner (Fixed‑term)

About the role

This fixed‑term position supports Porirua City Council’s financial planning and reporting functions while covering a parental leave until September 2027. You will work closely with General Managers and their teams, providing trusted financial advice and helping to drive value‑for‑money outcomes across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive financial advice to General Managers and leadership teams.
• Review cost‑centre performance to enhance ratepayer equity.
• Assess investment decisions, risks and opportunities; support post‑investment reviews.
• Prepare strategic financial insights and non‑financial information for decision‑making.
• Produce regular financial reports for executive leadership, council and managers.
• Manage the ledger, including journal processing, accruals, WIP capitalisation, forecasts and budgets.
• Collaborate with business units to implement projects that improve critical processes.

Required profile

• CAANZ‑recognised Chartered Accountant qualification or equivalent experience in large, complex organisations.
• Proven experience in management reporting within local or central government.
• Strong accounting and finance knowledge with the ability to lead finance‑system projects.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective stakeholder relationships.
• Analytical, strategic and commercial mindset with a track record of turning data into insights.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
