Experienced BAS Accountant – Nelson

About the role

We are seeking an experienced BAS Accountant to join our senior team in sunny Nelson. You will own client relationships, review BAS work and mentor junior staff while delivering high‑quality tax compliance for SME clients.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review Business Activity Statements (BAS) for a portfolio of SME clients.
• Ensure GST compliance and accurate reporting in line with New Zealand tax legislation.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accountants, reviewing their work and supporting their development.
• Maintain direct ownership of client accounts, acting as the primary point of contact for tax queries.
• Collaborate with senior partners to identify process improvements and deliver value‑added advice.

Required profile

• Several years of hands‑on experience preparing and reviewing BAS for New Zealand businesses.
• Strong knowledge of GST, tax compliance and related legislation.
• Proven ability to manage client relationships and take ownership of deliverables.
• Experience mentoring or supervising junior accounting staff.
• Professional, detail‑oriented and able to work independently in a senior capacity.
