Department Manager – Retail (Manukau)

About the role

As a Department Manager at Bunnings in Manukau, you will lead daily operations, sales and high‑volume stock management for your specialist area. Reporting to the Operations and Complex Manager, you will oversee a team of 20+ members to deliver the best customer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of 20+ staff, ensuring a safe and engaged work environment.
• Perform duty manager duties, including opening and closing the store on weekdays and weekends.
• Build team capability through coaching, performance management and recognition.
• Rostering and strategic planning to meet service promises.
• Drive department sales through effective merchandising and monitoring key metrics.
• Act on customer feedback to improve the end‑to‑end experience.
• Maintain stock accuracy, manage adjustments, replenishment and loss‑prevention processes.
• Monitor and measure customer service levels and liaise with merchandising, store leadership and health & safety teams.
• Develop strong relationships with suppliers.

Required profile

• Highly driven individual with strong leadership and influencing skills.
• Previous experience leading large teams (20+) in retail or high‑volume environments.
• Focus on safety, wellbeing and compliance.
• Ability to wear many hats, influence multiple stakeholders and understand KPIs.
• Commitment to exceeding customer expectations.
