About the role

The Court Security Officer ensures a safe and secure environment for the public, staff and judicial officers at the Gisborne courthouse. You will work as part of a dedicated team, providing professional security services while interacting with a diverse range of people.

Key responsibilities

  • Engage with visitors, build relationships and provide customer service while maintaining security protocols.
  • Screen individuals, operate and maintain CCTV and electronic access‑control systems.
  • Patrol public areas, conduct building security checks and respond to duress alarms.
  • Coordinate with police, corrections, lawyers and judicial officers to ensure safe court proceedings.
  • Identify, mitigate and report security, health and safety threats and incidents.

Required profile

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding role and meet full‑contact officer safety training requirements.
  • Clean New Zealand driver’s licence and criminal record.
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and cultural considerations, especially Tikanga Māori.
  • Willingness to undergo accredited training and obtain security qualifications.
