Consultant Haematologist – Wellington Regional Hospital

About the role

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking a Consultant Haematologist to provide comprehensive specialist care across malignant and non‑malignant haematology services. Candidates with expertise or a strong interest in Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) are especially encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care in outpatient clinics, inpatient wards and laboratory oversight.
• Lead clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of patients referred to the Wellington Blood and Cancer Haematology Service.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, the Clinical Leader of Oncology and the Director of Medical Services to ensure seamless regional care.
• Contribute to service development, quality‑improvement initiatives, clinical governance and teaching activities.
• Participate in research programmes and clinical trials, including CAR‑T therapy and stem‑cell transplantation.

Required profile

• Medical qualification with specialist registration in Haematology (FRACP or equivalent).
• Significant experience in both malignant and non‑malignant haematology, preferably with BMT exposure.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary and multi‑site environments.
• Commitment to patient‑centred care, teaching and continuous service improvement.
