CAD Designer – Agriculture Machinery

About the role

A contractor CAD designer position based just outside Timaru, Canterbury, for a workshop that manufactures agriculture machinery and accessories. The role takes legacy file drawings and converts them into complete, structured drawings that can be standardised and used in the workshop. It includes welding detail, structure work and tolerance directories. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled operator on a temporary contract, with at least 6 months of work, who will also review current practice and suggest improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Take existing structural drawings and add dimensions, tolerances, weld and preparation detail so they can be used for fabrication and welding.
• Analyse models in Solid Edge to check practical clearances on assembled components and change part drawings where needed.
• Recreate parts as BOM IDs for cleats, box sections, angles and beams, and produce BOM documentation.
• Create revision nomenclature and develop assembly drawings from structural drawings.
• Produce drawings of jigs as required.
• Work closely with the workshop manager to plan and prioritise tasks.

Required profile

• Previous experience using CAD tools and an understanding of how machinery works.
• Competent use of Solid Edge and/or Solid Works.
• Background in Solid Works or Tekla.
