Application Engineer – Personal Safety (New Zealand)

About the role

3M is seeking an Application Engineer for its Personal Safety Division in New Zealand. The role provides technical and application‑engineering support for the full portfolio of personal protective equipment, acting as the primary local technical resource for customers, distributors, and internal teams.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct customer visits, workplace assessments and application evaluations to understand hazards and requirements.
• Provide product selection, technical recommendations, demonstrations, field trials and performance evaluations.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and support product implementation and new product introductions.
• Collaborate with Sales, Marketing and R&D to develop value propositions, strategic opportunities and portfolio growth.
• Coordinate and lead field trials, evaluate competition and market practices, and capture Voice of Customer.
• Maintain fluency with industry standards, regulations and participation in relevant standards bodies.

Required profile

• Technical background in engineering or a related field with experience in personal protective equipment or safety solutions.
• Ability to assess workplace hazards and translate customer needs into technical solutions.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with customers, distributors and cross‑functional teams.
• Proactive attitude toward innovation, value‑creation and market specialization.
