About the role
The Welfare & Self‑Reliance Department is seeking a permanent full‑time manager to be based in Auckland. Reporting to the Regional WSR Manager, you will act as the primary liaison for area leaders, delivering training, consultation, and access to welfare resources that help individuals and families in need.
Key responsibilities
- Train and support church leaders on welfare and self‑reliance solutions, delivering groups, education, family services, humanitarian aid and emergency response.
- Develop resources in partnership with government agencies, NGOs, educational institutions and community groups.
- Design and manage educational initiatives such as PathwayConnect, EnglishConnect, BYU‑Hawaii collaborations, and scholarship programs.
- Identify and coordinate humanitarian initiatives, assist units with emergency response planning and promote preparedness.
- Collaborate with Family Services to provide behavioural health and wellness support.
- Support young adults in education and meaningful employment through the Careers Initiative.
- Recruit, develop and lead a support team of full‑time staff, missionaries and volunteers.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and at least six years of professional experience, including two years in a management role.
- Proven success working with senior leaders and stakeholders.
- Strong relationship‑building, training and facilitation abilities.
- Deep understanding of Welfare & Self‑Reliance principles and church leadership experience.
- High initiative, sound judgment, emotional maturity and executive presence.
- Excellent analytical, creative and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with personal computing and ability to work independently.
- Willingness to travel and operate in a mobile office environment.
- Legal right to work in New Zealand; police background check may be required.
