Team Lead / Senior Cloud Operations Engineer

About the role

We are partnering with a fast‑growing software and technology business to hire a Team Lead / Senior Cloud Operations Engineer. This hands‑on technical leadership role will guide a small team, drive automation, and ensure the reliability of Azure and hybrid cloud infrastructure across New Zealand and Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and grow a small team of cloud and operations engineers.
• Own and continuously improve Azure cloud infrastructure and hybrid environments.
• Drive automation initiatives using Python, PowerShell, Azure CLI, ARM templates and Terraform.
• Support and optimise Windows and Linux systems, networking, backups, patching and monitoring.
• Act as senior escalation point for infrastructure and cloud operations issues.
• Collaborate with development teams on deployments, CI/CD pipelines and platform reliability.
• Enhance operational processes, documentation, security posture and system performance.
• Assist with project delivery, platform improvements and technical roadmap planning.

Required profile

• Strong Azure operations experience (VMs, Storage, Networking, App Services, etc.).
• Hands‑on automation and scripting experience with PowerShell, Python, Azure CLI, ARM templates or Terraform.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Azure DevOps environments.
• Proficiency in supporting SQL databases, including backups and restores.
• Solid understanding of DNS, SSL/TLS, certificates and networking fundamentals.
• Experience troubleshooting web applications and backend services in hybrid/on‑prem environments.
• Previous mentoring, team‑lead or senior escalation experience is highly regarded.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, solutions‑focused mindset.
