About the role
The Centre for Early Learning in Medicine (CELM) at the University of Otago seeks a Teaching Fellow or Senior Teaching Fellow to join its Early Learning in Medicine (ELM) programme. You will work with second‑ and third‑year medical students, delivering small‑group tutorials that integrate clinical skills, early professional experience and case‑based learning.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and lead engaging small‑group tutorials for 11–24 students.
- Facilitate interactive, student‑centred learning across the Clinical Skills, Early Professional Experience and Integrated Cases modules.
- Contribute to student assessments and provide constructive academic and professional feedback.
- Support students in developing reflective, culturally capable clinical practice.
- Collaborate with faculty members from Medicine and Biomedical Sciences to continuously improve the curriculum.
Required profile
- Health professional or biomedical/pre‑clinical scientist with relevant qualification.
- Experience in medical, clinical or undergraduate teaching (preferred).
- Commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive education.
- Student‑centred approach and ability to work within a diverse, collaborative team.
Required skills
- Facilitation of small‑group learning.
- Ability to teach core clinical skills such as history taking and physical examination.
- Understanding of modern medical education practices and case‑based learning.
