Shift Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Shift Engineer to join the engineering team at our Lorneville plant. The role focuses on the safe, reliable and efficient operation of industrial refrigeration and associated plant in a 24/7 environment, providing hands‑on technical expertise and supporting continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, monitor and maintain industrial refrigeration systems.
• Respond to breakdowns and plant faults during shift operations.
• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance activities.
• Ensure refrigeration systems operate safely and efficiently.
• Support compliance with HSWA, MPI and environmental requirements.
• Complete accurate maintenance records and reports.
• Work closely with production and engineering teams to minimise downtime.
• Participate in continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.

Required profile

• Practical, safety‑focused engineer comfortable working independently on shift.
• Trade qualification in Refrigeration/HVAC or Mechanical Engineering.
• Proven experience with industrial refrigeration systems (ammonia experience highly desirable).
• Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic skills.
• Experience in a shift‑based or 24/7 environment.
• Commitment to health and safety and safe systems of work.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
