Senior Privacy Advisor

About the role

The Senior Privacy Advisor is a full‑time permanent position based in Wellington, reporting to the Manager, Privacy. The role supports the Ministry in managing personal information responsibly and strengthening privacy compliance, capability and culture across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide practical privacy advice on projects, incidents, breaches, information requests, new technologies and policy initiatives.
• Assist in maturing the Ministry’s privacy function by developing team processes, operational guidance and forward‑looking work plans.
• Collaborate with legal, risk and operational teams to ensure privacy considerations are embedded in everyday work.
• Contribute to the development of privacy training and awareness programmes.

Required profile

• Strong judgement and a solutions‑focused approach to complex or ambiguous privacy issues.
• Excellent communication skills, able to tailor advice to diverse audiences and build effective relationships.
• Motivation to foster a positive, pragmatic privacy culture within a public‑service environment.
• Commitment to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
