Senior Developer Experience Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Developer Experience Engineer to own and evolve the tooling, CI/CD pipelines, test infrastructure and observability platforms that thousands of IDEXX engineers rely on. Based in Auckland, you will treat internal engineers as customers and drive improvements that accelerate safe and fast software delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Improve developer workflows and tooling across all engineering teams.
• Own the observability strategy and rollout, including Datadog dashboards, monitors and APM.
• Identify friction points, standardise processes and drive engineering best‑practice adoption.
• Contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing to uplift overall capability.
• Enhance CI/CD pipelines, development environments and internal platforms.
• Design and build solutions on AWS using infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform).
• Shape architectural decisions for scalability, performance and reliability.
• Help transition monolithic systems toward modular, domain‑oriented architectures.
• Build observable, resilient systems that are easy to operate at scale.
• Embed AI capabilities into product features and developer workflows.
• Experiment with emerging agentic tools such as Claude Code, Cursor and Figma Make.
• Automate repetitive tasks and continuously improve engineering efficiency.
• Write clean, maintainable and well‑tested code.
• Promote strong engineering practices including automated testing, CI/CD and DevSecOps.

Required profile

• Solid experience with modern stacks such as Go, TypeScript, PHP or similar languages.
• Strong experience working with AWS and Terraform.
• Deep understanding of cloud‑native architectures, distributed systems and modern software design.
• Ability to communicate clearly, plan effectively, estimate work and deliver outcomes independently while contributing to a high‑performing team.
• Passion for developer experience, knowledge sharing and improving engineering practices.
• Bias toward simplicity and reliability – choosing robust solutions over clever ones.
• Strong problem‑solving skills with a knack for recognising patterns and optimising workflows.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
