Analyst Programmer

About the role

Join ANZ’s Cards Switch team and help power the real‑time processing of millions of card transactions across New Zealand. You will work at the core of a high‑speed, bidirectional payment platform that validates, authorises, routes and processes transactions instantly for ATMs, POS, online and in‑store purchases.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse card transaction flows (authorisations, clearing, settlement, reversals) across the switch.
• Design, develop and enhance switch functionality to support Visa, Mastercard and domestic schemes.
• Write, review and maintain high‑quality Java code and SQL scripts for real‑time processing.
• Investigate production issues, trace transactions end‑to‑end and resolve incidents to keep the switch running 24/7.
• Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, vendors and operations teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Support scheme mandates, regulatory changes and certification activities.
• Participate in release planning, deployments and post‑implementation reviews.
• Provide on‑call support and share knowledge to improve documentation and processes.

Required profile

• At least 2 years experience as an Analyst Programmer, preferably in the card payments industry.
• Understanding of ATM/POS acquired card transaction authorisation, routing and processing.
• Experience with Java and SQL technologies.
• Familiarity with standard payment schemes and regulatory requirements.
