About the role
Environment Southland is seeking a Senior Advisor Strategic Communications to shape how the organisation communicates complex environmental issues across the region. The role works at a strategic level, partnering with leaders and teams to ensure clear, consistent messaging that supports council priorities and environmental outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic communications advice across the organisation.
- Plan and deliver communication and engagement programmes aligned with key council priorities and environmental outcomes.
- Support teams in communicating complex or sensitive issues clearly and effectively.
- Respond to emerging issues and media enquiries, offering guidance on reputation and risk.
- Collaborate with the Communications and Partnerships team to deliver impactful campaigns, events and engagement activities.
Required profile
- Extensive experience in strategic communications within a public or environmental sector.
- Strong judgement, collaborative approach and confidence in advising senior leaders.
- Ability to translate complex issues into clear, engaging messages.
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and partnership commitments with Ngāi Tahu ki Murihiku.
