Packing Operator – Food Production (Timaru)

About the role

As a Processing Operator at McCain's Timaru plant, you will own a production zone, turning locally sourced potatoes into chips and fries. The role runs 24/7 on a rotating 12‑hour shift pattern and includes full training.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the efficient operation of your assigned production zone.
• Set up and operate computerized touchscreen machinery.
• Follow a structured roster of 12‑hour shifts (2 days day, 2 nights, 4 days off).
• Remain actively engaged, standing and walking for extended periods.
• Perform basic data entry for quality control and administration.
• Conduct regular cleaning and sanitation routines.
• Identify and resolve product or equipment defects quickly.
• Provide clear handovers at shift changes.

Required profile

• High mental agility – quick learner, problem‑solver.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining clear communication.
• Comfortable with prolonged standing and walking.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
• Commitment to health, safety and food quality standards.
• Legal right to work in New Zealand and willingness to undergo medical, drug and reference checks.
