Shift Engineer – Industrial Refrigeration

About the role

Silver Fern Farms is seeking a Shift Engineer to join its high‑performing engineering team at the Pareora site in Timaru. You will work on a rotating 45‑hour roster, supporting critical refrigeration, water and air services that keep the plant running efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Own day‑to‑day operation of refrigeration, ammonia, compressed air and water reticulation systems.
• Perform planned and reactive maintenance to minimise downtime and maximise reliability.
• Respond quickly to breakdowns, restoring equipment safely to full capacity.
• Maintain compliance with food‑hygiene and regulatory standards in controlled areas.
• Promote a strong health and safety culture through active participation and leadership.

Required profile

• Proven experience in refrigeration, ammonia or similar industrial engineering environments.
• Strong fault‑finding ability with a practical, solutions‑focused mindset.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Well‑organised with solid problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Relevant Level 3 or 4 (or higher) qualification in Refrigeration & Air‑Conditioning (advantageous).
