Junior Design Researcher

About the role

As a Junior Design Researcher in the Segments team of Personal Banking, you will help uncover customer behaviours, needs and motivations to shape better digital experiences. The role is based in Wellington or Auckland and operates under a 12‑month fixed‑term contract.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct user testing and research on digital projects to generate insights and identify emerging trends.
• Plan, guide and deliver design research activities that balance customer value and business outcomes.
• Advocate design thinking by bringing research findings to decision‑making forums.
• Identify key themes, trends and best practices, and create design artefacts that communicate these stories effectively.
• Participate in the design research practice to ensure alignment with best‑practice standards.
• Promote inclusive design principles across research initiatives.
• Collaborate with partners and stakeholders throughout the discovery journey.

Required profile

• Understanding of design research and design thinking methodologies.
• 1‑3 years of experience conducting generative and evaluative research with users.
• Working knowledge of a variety of research methods and tools, and ability to select the appropriate method for each question.
• Aptitude for translating research insights into actionable value.
