About the role

The Public Defence Service (PDS) in Waitakere is seeking an experienced criminal litigator to join as a Lawyer PAL1. You will provide high‑quality defence representation to legally aided clients while working in a collaborative, supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality defence representation to legally aided clients.
• Manage a varied caseload of criminal matters.
• Provide support and mentorship to intermediate and senior lawyers.

Required profile

• Hold PAL1 approval level and be qualified to practice law in New Zealand.
• Demonstrated confidence in interacting with judges, peers, and the legal community.
• Enjoy sharing legal expertise, brainstorming, and collaborative problem‑solving.
• Show empathy and the ability to relate to a wide range of people.
