Clinical Research Nurse – Part-time (0.5 FTE)

About the role

The University of Otago’s Department of Surgery & Critical Care is seeking a Clinical Research Nurse to support research studies and clinical trials on the Christchurch campus. Working part-time (0.5 FTE) on a two-year fixed-term contract, you will coordinate clinical, administrative and data activities to ensure high-quality research outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate clinical, administrative and data requirements for designated research studies and trials.
• Recruit patients, conduct interviews, collect and enter data, and manage follow-up activities.
• Assist with ethics applications, obtain consent, and perform blood sampling where required.
• Maintain accurate research records and support data handling and reporting.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a current NCNZ practising certificate.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong time-management, organisational and prioritisation skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with high attention to detail.
• Ability to interpret clinical data related to surgery; previous clinical research experience is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency with spreadsheets.
• Experience using databases.
• Competence in Microsoft Word.
• Familiarity with clinical application systems.
• Use of internet services for research purposes.
