Assistant Store Manager – Retail

About the role

Join Platypus Shoes in Blenheim as an Assistant Store Manager and work side‑by‑side with the Store Manager to lead a passionate retail team. You will help drive sales, coach staff, and deliver an exceptional customer experience in a fast‑paced footwear environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Store Manager in achieving sales targets, KPIs and visual merchandising standards.
• Motivate and inspire the team to deliver outstanding sales and customer service.
• Monitor and analyse daily, weekly and monthly store performance, celebrating wins and identifying growth opportunities.
• Manage rosters and wage spend in line with company targets and operational efficiency.
• Coach, mentor and develop team members, fostering high morale and succession planning.
• Oversee stock levels, store presentation, shrinkage control and overall operational excellence.
• Ensure compliance with OH&S policies and relevant legislation.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a senior casual, key holder, 3IC or supervisor in a high‑volume retail setting.
• Proven ability to lead a team and deliver strong sales results.
• Proactive, hands‑on leader with a ‘Make it Happen’ mindset.
• Strong communication skills and a passion for coaching others.
• Operational know‑how across stock management and visual merchandising.
• Genuine enthusiasm for customer experience and premium footwear products.
