Android Mobile Engineer

About the role

Air New Zealand is looking for an Android Mobile Engineer to join the Customer Touchpoints team. You will help shape digital travel experiences by building and scaling native Android applications used by millions of customers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and enhance native Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• Deliver high‑quality mobile features from concept through release and ongoing support.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, QA, and engineers in an agile environment.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and app‑store deployment processes.
• Ensure mobile solutions meet performance, accessibility, security, and usability standards.
• Identify and reduce technical debt to improve long‑term product quality.
• Provide reliable application support and drive continuous improvement across the mobile platform.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of software engineering experience, including native Android development.
• Strong experience with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• Understanding of mobile architecture, engineering patterns, and release practices.
• Experience with testing frameworks, CI/CD tooling, and version‑control systems.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs, dependency management, observability, and crash analysis.
• Knowledge of Agile or Lean delivery practices.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
• Exposure to backend‑for‑frontend patterns and cloud platforms such as AWS is a plus.
