Team Leader - Payroll & People Data

About the role

This newly established permanent role is based in Wellington and reports to the Senior Manager – People Operations & Data. You will lead the end‑to‑end payroll function, shaping how payroll, systems and people data work together to drive better business outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Own and manage the full payroll lifecycle, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
• Lead, develop and grow a capable payroll team, fostering technical depth and a culture of quality and continuous learning.
• Collaborate with People & Culture, Finance and other business leaders to align payroll with broader organisational goals.
• Drive continuous improvement across payroll processes, systems and technology.
• Maintain compliance with New Zealand payroll legislation and optimise HRIS and related systems.
• Leverage data and insights to support decision‑making and organisational change.

Required profile

• Extensive experience leading payroll functions.
• Strong stakeholder and influencing skills.
• Deep knowledge of New Zealand payroll legislation.
• Proven ability to optimise HRIS and payroll systems.
• Track record of delivering continuous improvement.
• Willingness to upskill and enhance cultural capability.
