Senior Commercial Counsel – Legal Commercial Team

About the role

Marsh Group is looking for a senior commercial lawyer to join its Legal Commercial team supporting Marsh and Mercer across Australia and New Zealand. The role offers a hybrid work model and involves a mix of high‑impact negotiations, regulatory advice, and strategic projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead negotiation, drafting and review of complex commercial agreements for multiple product lines.
• Provide timely, solution‑focused advice to Sales, Procurement, Vendor Management and Regulatory Compliance teams.
• Monitor and interpret new laws and regulations, identifying liability exposures and recommending mitigation strategies.
• Support cross‑border matters and collaborate with overseas offices on regional and global initiatives.
• Mentor junior lawyers, develop templates, playbooks and deliver training to improve contracting efficiency.

Required profile

• Admitted to practice in Australia with a current practising certificate (or ability to obtain one).
• 8+ years post‑qualification experience as a commercial lawyer, in‑house or private practice.
• Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably insurance or financial services.
• Strong commercial mindset with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives.
