Senior Cloud Database Engineer

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join ANZ’s Payments Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. As a Senior Database Reliability Engineer you will be the technical specialist responsible for database reliability, performance, compliance and developer enablement across on‑prem, hybrid and cloud environments.

Key responsibilities

• Optimize and support cloud‑native databases on GCP and AWS.
• Manage and administer relational (Oracle, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis, ElasticSearch) databases.
• Support migrations from on‑prem to cloud and hybrid environments.
• Perform backup/recovery, performance tuning and security management.
• Champion automation using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools and database change automation.
• Build internal tooling and documentation to improve developer experience.
• Explore and apply AI‑driven solutions for database operations.
• Contribute to SRE practices such as observability, incident response and error‑budget aligned operations.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on experience with cloud databases (e.g., Cloud Spanner, BigQuery).
• Deep knowledge of relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL).
• Expertise in NoSQL technologies (MongoDB, Redis, ElasticSearch).
• Proven experience migrating databases between on‑prem and cloud platforms.
• Proficiency with GCP, AWS and IaC automation tools.
