Project Manager – Capital Works

About the role

The University of Otago is seeking a Project Manager to lead capital works across its campuses. You will oversee a diverse portfolio that includes heritage restorations, laboratory upgrades, accommodation improvements and complex refurbishments, all aligned with the university’s strategic plan to 2030.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full project lifecycle – scope, schedule, budget, quality and stakeholder expectations.
• Develop and maintain detailed project plans, programmes and governance frameworks.
• Coordinate design integration, procurement and construction activities.
• Lead multi‑disciplinary teams, including internal clients, consultants and contractors.
• Conduct proactive stakeholder engagement to ensure alignment and deliver value.
• Monitor and report on project performance, risks and cost controls.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering small to medium capital works projects end‑to‑end.
• Strong ability to build trust, influence outcomes and manage stakeholder relationships.
• Demonstrated leadership of multi‑disciplinary teams in construction or engineering environments.
