Fire Protection Design Engineer

About the role

The Fire Protection Design Engineer will join Aotea Fire (NZ) Limited to deliver design, tendering and certification services for fire protection systems, including sprinklers, hydrants and fire alarms. The role combines technical design work, site liaison and client interaction across a range of projects.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review design drawings for new or altered fire protection systems using AutoCAD 2D and Revit.
• Perform hydraulic calculations and produce reference sheets, block plans and as‑built documentation.
• Develop tender documentation, maintenance manuals and design parameter forms.
• Ensure designs comply with NZS4541, NZS4512, NZS4510, NFPA and FMDS codes.
• Coordinate with other building services and conduct site visits to gather necessary information.
• Maintain accurate time records and manage client communications.
• Support the commercial interests of the company by delivering high‑quality, risk‑aware solutions.

Required profile

• NZCE or NZ Diploma in Engineering.
• NZ driver’s licence and the right to work in New Zealand.
• Strong dedication to quality workmanship and ability to work both autonomously and within a team.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build client relationships.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Proficiency in Revit.
• Experience with Autodesk Docs, Navisworks or similar file‑sharing tools.
• Use of hydraulic calculation software.
• Microsoft 365 suite.
