General Manager – Transport

About the role

The General Manager – Transport will lead the transport strategy and operations across Fliway, Supply Chain Solutions and their subsidiaries. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will be responsible for driving sustainable growth, ensuring safety and compliance, and delivering cost‑effective services throughout New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement transport division strategic objectives aligned with the Group’s vision.
• Identify growth, innovation and competitive opportunities in the transport and logistics sector.
• Oversee daily transport operations, including fleet management, logistics coordination and route optimisation.
• Monitor and improve operational KPIs such as delivery timelines, fuel efficiency and cost management.
• Champion a safety‑first culture and ensure compliance with New Zealand transport, safety and environmental regulations.
• Build team engagement, reduce turnover and work with HR, H&S and national initiatives.
• Prepare, monitor and manage transport budgets to achieve monthly profitability targets.
• Drive cost efficiencies while maintaining service quality.
• Collaborate with internal teams (HR, Finance, Operations) to align strategies and resources.
• Manage relationships with regulatory bodies, vendors and clients.
• Establish internal KPIs for continual improvement, service delivery and wellbeing.
• Seek productivity improvements through systemisation and process optimisation.
• Design and plan new and existing branches together with the Commercial Manager.
• Stay current with technological advances in transport and recommend appropriate solutions.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in transport, logistics or supply‑chain management.
• Strong track record of developing and executing strategic plans.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large, engaged teams and foster a safety‑first culture.
• Excellent financial acumen with experience managing budgets and driving profitability.
• Knowledge of New Zealand transport, safety and environmental regulations.
• Effective stakeholder management and communication skills.
