Engineering Technician – Operations

About the role

We are seeking an Engineering Technician – Operations to join the Three Waters team of Christchurch City Council. The role is field‑based and focuses on the safe, reliable and compliant operation of drinking water treatment facilities that serve Christchurch and Banks Peninsula.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, monitor and maintain water treatment systems, including chlorination equipment and related infrastructure.
• Perform routine inspections, performance checks and system adjustments to achieve required treatment outcomes.
• Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance on plant equipment such as pumps, analysers and associated assets.
• Handle, transport and manage treatment chemicals in accordance with hazardous substances regulations.
• Conduct water quality monitoring, field testing and support sampling programmes.
• Record operational and maintenance data accurately in SAP and other systems.
• Respond to equipment faults, water‑quality issues and operational incidents, including participation in a standby roster.
