Contract Manager – Chip Sealing

About the role

SouthRoads is seeking a Contract Manager to lead chip‑sealing programmes across the Lower South Island. The role blends commercial oversight, contract coordination and cost control while working closely with operational teams to deliver safe, compliant and financially successful projects.

Key responsibilities

• Administer contracts including progress claims, variations and payments.
• Track project budgets, forecast costs and monitor financial performance.
• Select and design chip‑seal treatments.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, records and tracking tools.
• Manage quality‑assurance records and support audit/compliance activities.
• Provide commercial input into planning and programme development.
• Serve as primary client contact for contractual, commercial and administrative matters.
• Identify contractual risks and assist with issue/dispute resolution.
• Align contractual, quality and compliance requirements with health‑and‑safety expectations.
• Collaborate with operational teams to ensure consistent safety documentation and reporting.
• Improve consistency, accuracy and efficiency of systems, processes and reporting.

Required profile

• Proven experience in contract administration or management within the chip‑sealing sector.
• Strong commitment to health and safety and understanding of its contractual implications.
• Solid commercial judgement with experience managing costs and financial reporting.
• High attention to detail and ability to handle complex documentation.
• Confidence using contract management systems and reporting tools.
• Clear communication skills and ability to build effective relationships.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
