Technical Project Manager - Building Structures

About the role

WSP is seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex building structure projects in Christchurch. You will work closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to provide high‑quality, future‑focused engineering solutions that positively impact communities across New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage structural engineering projects, ensuring delivery on time, within budget and to a high standard.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships while identifying new business opportunities.
• Oversee project planning, financial performance, reporting and risk management.
• Guide technical delivery, including design, feasibility studies and contract documentation.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams throughout design and construction phases.
• Mentor and support developing engineers to foster a high‑performing team culture.
• Apply innovative thinking to solve complex engineering challenges.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Structural or Civil Engineering.
• Preferably Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or working towards it.
• Approximately 8+ years of experience in structural engineering and project management.
• Proven ability to lead projects and manage client relationships.
• Strong design capability across steel, concrete and timber systems.
• Sound knowledge of New Zealand standards and design practices (NZS 3910 advantageous).
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, client‑focused mindset.
• Proactive approach to mentoring and a current clean driver’s licence.
