About the role
Join the People & Capability team at New Zealand Customs as an Assistant Human Resources Adviser. This fixed‑term secondment runs until the end of February 2027, primarily based in Wellington with the possibility of an Auckland location for the right candidate. You will support HR operations and deliver high‑quality service to managers and staff across the organisation.
Key responsibilities
- Provide first‑line HR advice and service to managers and employees.
- Assist with HR administration, coordination and recruitment processes.
- Maintain accurate HR records and ensure compliance with employment legislation and the Privacy Act.
- Support the delivery of HR projects and contribute ideas for process improvements.
- Manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and uphold high standards of quality and accuracy.
Required profile
- Strong communicator with a proactive, self‑starting attitude.
- Ability to work autonomously, set priorities and manage time effectively.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
- Flexibility to adapt to varying workloads in a busy team environment.
Required skills
- Administration or coordination experience in an HR or recruitment setting.
- Knowledge of employment legislation, Privacy Act and public‑sector HR best practices.
- Exceptional customer focus and relationship‑building abilities.
