Treasury Accountant

About the role

Auckland Council’s Group Treasury team is seeking a Treasury Accountant to support treasury accounting and financial reporting for a large public organisation. Reporting to the Group Treasury Accountant, you will develop specialist expertise in accounting for debt, derivatives and other financial instruments while ensuring high‑quality disclosures.

Key responsibilities

• Support treasury accounting for debt and derivative transactions for Auckland Council and Watercare.
• Prepare accurate, transparent and timely financial reporting and disclosures.
• Perform reconciliations, analysis and assist with audit queries.
• Apply IPSAS requirements to treasury transactions and statutory reporting.
• Assist in determining fair value and impairment of financial instruments.
• Identify and implement process improvements.

Required profile

• CA qualification or equivalent, or close to completion.
• At least 2 years of accounting experience.
• Strong analytical ability and attention to detail.
• Interest in treasury, financial markets and technical accounting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
