Technical Lead – Planning (Infrastructure)

About the role

GHD is seeking an experienced Technical Lead – Planning to join its national team, ideally based in Wellington or Auckland. You will lead planning and environmental assessment services on medium to large infrastructure projects, shaping New Zealand’s built environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead planning on multi‑disciplinary projects, coordinating environmental assessment and stakeholder engagement.
• Oversee technical deliverables, conduct peer reviews and ensure quality standards.
• Act as Project Manager for moderately complex projects, handling financial and programme management.
• Develop and contribute to proposals, driving business development and client relationship management.
• Manage key client portfolios and help grow GHD’s infrastructure planning presence.
• Mentor and coach junior planners, fostering a collaborative national team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 12 years of planning experience, preferably infrastructure‑focused.
• Full Membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI).
• Strong consultancy background with proven client‑management and business‑development experience.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and networking abilities.
• Proactive, decisive, self‑motivated and energetic.
