Systems & Networks Administrator

About the role

Solution Squad is seeking a Systems & Networks Administrator to maintain and support server environments, networks, firewalls and client devices across New Zealand. The role involves both remote and on‑site work, requiring problem‑solving across a broad range of technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and support Windows Server and Linux Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP and identity management.
• Administer Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Conditional Access and Intune, and perform system patching, updates and backup management.
• Install, configure and maintain virtualised environments (VMware, Hyper‑V) and monitor performance, capacity and uptime.
• Maintain routers, switches, VLANs, wireless access points and troubleshoot WAN/LAN issues.
• Configure VPNs, network segmentation, routing and manage firewall platforms (Sophos, Fortinet, Cisco).
• Monitor security alerts, apply firewall rules, and support endpoint and email security solutions.
• Deploy, configure and support desktops, laptops, tablets and mobile devices, handling Tier 2/3 technical support for multiple clients.
• Perform on‑site hardware installations, migrations and resolve complex issues that cannot be handled remotely.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience as a Systems Administrator, Network Administrator or similar role.
• Strong understanding of Windows Server environments and networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs).
• Hands‑on experience with firewalls such as Sophos, Fortinet or Cisco.
• Experience administering Microsoft 365 and Azure services.
• Proficiency with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper‑V).
• Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., Microsoft AZ‑104, CCNA/CCNP, Network+, Security+, Fortinet NSE, Sophos Certified).
