Senior Teaching Fellow / Lecturer in Transdisciplinary Design

About the role

The University of Waikato is expanding its Faculty of Design and seeks senior academics to lead and shape transdisciplinary design programmes. You will join a growing team that values innovation, interdisciplinarity and real‑world impact, helping students tackle complex social, environmental and technological challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality teaching across design disciplines at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Develop and refine curriculum that integrates creative practice, research and industry relevance.
• Supervise student projects and, where applicable, postgraduate research.
• Collaborate with industry partners, iwi and community organisations to create meaningful design outcomes.
• Contribute to the Faculty’s research agenda and applied research initiatives.

Required profile

• Postgraduate qualification or PhD in design or a closely related field (or near completion).
• Demonstrated experience teaching in tertiary education or strong evidence of teaching capability.
• Broad knowledge of design theory, methods and practice.
• Ability to work across design disciplines and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• Student‑centred approach to teaching and curriculum development.
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and positive engagement with Māori communities.
