About the role
Massey University invites applications for a permanent Lectureship in Classical Studies at its Manawatū campus. The role supports the Bachelor of Arts programme and involves teaching, research, and service within a vibrant School of Humanities.
Key responsibilities
- Teach and administer undergraduate courses covering mythology, Greek religion, and Greek and Roman art.
- Design, develop, and deliver new and existing courses for both online and face‑to‑face delivery.
- Prepare and deliver course materials, emphasizing distance‑learning methods.
- Assess student work, including written assignments, oral presentations, and examinations.
- Provide academic support to both distance and on‑campus students.
- Maintain an active research programme, publish scholarly work, and present at conferences.
- Supervise postgraduate research students and contribute to their successful completion.
- Participate in programme development, departmental committees, and community engagement.
Required profile
- PhD in Classical Studies (or near completion).
- Demonstrated tertiary teaching experience with knowledge of contemporary pedagogies.
- Familiarity with online and distance teaching approaches.
- Developed or emerging research record with publications in the field.
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage students.
- Collaborative attitude and willingness to contribute to programme growth.
- Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and inclusive teaching practices.
