About the role
We are seeking a Drainage Leading Hand to lead the crew that keeps Auckland’s stormwater network flowing. The role blends hands‑on work on drainage projects with planning, coordination and people leadership to ensure safe, efficient delivery of maintenance and new works.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, schedule and oversee drainage maintenance, repairs and new installations.
- Coordinate daily activities of the crew, ensuring work complies with contract specifications and safety standards.
- Collaborate with supervisors, subcontractors, clients and stakeholders to manage expectations and resolve issues.
- Provide on‑site support, troubleshooting problems and assisting the team when required.
- Mentor and coach crew members, fostering a high‑performing, safety‑focused team.
Required profile
- Minimum three years’ experience in drainage, water, wastewater or civil construction.
- Proven ability to lead crews and coordinate field delivery.
- Strong planning, organisational and problem‑solving capabilities.
- Hands‑on attitude with willingness to work alongside the team.
- Experience in coaching, mentoring and developing field staff.
- Confident communication with customers, residents and stakeholders.
- Commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
Required skills
- Full Class 1 driver licence (Class 2, WTR or digger operation experience highly regarded).
- Relevant industry qualifications in drainage, water, wastewater or civil works (advantageous).
