Cyber Defence Analyst (Shift Work)

About the role

As a Cyber Defence Analyst at One NZ you will protect the telco’s network and its customers from cyber threats. Working in a 24/7 Cyber Defence Centre, you will join a rotating shift roster that includes days, nights, weekends and public holidays to ensure continuous monitoring and rapid incident response.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor SIEM, EDR/XDR and other security platforms to detect suspicious activity.
• Triage security alerts, assess risk and manage incidents through containment or escalation.
• Conduct initial investigations, gather evidence and document incidents during night‑shift operations.
• Perform threat‑hunting activities aligned with emerging threats and threat intelligence.
• Collaborate with senior analysts and cross‑functional teams to handle critical incidents.
• Provide clear shift handovers with incident summaries and status updates.
• Follow incident‑response runbooks, processes and standard operating procedures.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Cybersecurity, IT, Computer Science or a related field.
• Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, threat landscape and common attack vectors.
• Ability to work with broad direction and quickly acquire knowledge across technologies.
• Experience with Linux, Windows, scripting, TCP/IP, DNS and packet or log analysis is advantageous.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., SSC) are a plus.
