Chief Executive – Lead NZ Airports' National Air Network

About the role

We are seeking a visionary Chief Executive to lead NZ Airports, the body representing New Zealand’s entire airport network. Based in Wellington, you will shape a resilient national air system that underpins the country’s connectivity, prosperity and economic growth.

Key responsibilities

• Influence Ministers, regulators and decision‑makers on high‑profile policy and regulatory matters.
• Unite the sector to address system‑wide challenges such as infrastructure constraints, sustainability and evolving airline dynamics.
• Champion the interests of member airports, ensuring the diversity of the network is understood and represented.
• Identify emerging issues and position the sector with evidence‑based responses.
• Provide strategic clarity while building a modern, high‑performing organisation.
• Act as the public voice of the sector across media, select committees and public forums.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience working with government, Ministers and regulators.
• Strong ability to translate complex policy and regulatory issues into clear positions.
• Exceptional relationship leadership with credibility across diverse and sometimes competing stakeholders.
• High political awareness, independent judgement and diplomatic skill.
• Experience working with boards and leading disciplined organisations.
• Engaging, resilient leadership style focused on delivery.
