AI Adoption and Change Lead

About the role

New Zealand Customs is seeking an AI Adoption and Change Lead to drive the integration of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies across the organisation. Reporting to the Chief Digital and Technology Advisor, you will champion AI initiatives that enhance service quality and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver change programmes that build AI capability and confidence across teams.
• Coach, advise and run workshops to embed new ways of working.
• Develop communications and guidance to explain AI concepts in plain language.
• Track adoption metrics, behaviour change and business outcomes over time.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure alignment with government frameworks for responsible technology use.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading change management, digital transformation or organisational development initiatives.
• Practical understanding of AI applications in a business context, such as generative AI, automation and analytics.
• Strong facilitation, coaching and stakeholder management skills.
• Data‑driven approach to measuring adoption and outcomes.
• Relevant tertiary qualification (preferred) and change‑management certification (e.g., Prosci, ADKAR) desirable.
