Venue Technician

About the role

The Napier Conference Center is looking for a dedicated part‑time Venue Technician to join the technical team. Working alongside the Senior Venue Technician, you will ensure that all equipment, furniture and sound systems are ready for each client event and that the venue meets operational and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and make available all hired‑in equipment required by clients at the start of each hire.
• Train and supervise casual staff during events to meet venue and client requirements.
• Inspect, maintain and tag technical equipment to comply with safety standards.
• Store stage drapes and equipment safely, ensuring fire‑retardant certifications are current.
• Manage stocks of technical consumables to support efficient operation of portable equipment.
• Operate sound, lighting and audio‑visual systems independently to ensure smooth performances.

Required profile

• Sound knowledge of the “Guide to Safe Work Practices in NZ Theatre and Entertainment Industry”.
• Previous experience using sound, lighting and audio/visual equipment.
• Ability to work unsupervised.
• NZQA Level 2 qualification.
• Working at heights certification.
• Current First Aid Certificate.
• Valid driver’s licence.
