Utility Worker

About the role

We are seeking a reliable, safety‑focused Utility Worker to join Northpower’s field crew. The role is hands‑on and outdoors, supporting the delivery of electricity and fibre infrastructure across the Whangārei and Kaipara regions.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare sites, identify hazards and establish safe work areas in line with Safe Work Practices.
• Perform general labour tasks such as trenching, digging, lifting, and installing equipment.
• Locate and mark underground services and obstructions before excavation.
• Ensure all tools, equipment and personal protective equipment are available, compliant and fit for purpose.
• Maintain strict health, safety, quality and environmental standards at all times.
• Collaborate with team members to meet operational, regulatory and customer requirements.
• Report hazards, incidents and near‑misses promptly and accurately.
• Represent Northpower professionally when interacting with customers and the public.

Required profile

• Experience in labouring or utility work is preferred.
• Comfortable with heavy lifting, digging, trenching and other manual tasks.
• Ability to read and interpret plans and obstruction drawings.
• Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Reliable, punctual and safety‑conscious.
• Full Class 1 and Class 2 driver licences (required); Class 4, Class 5 and WTR endorsements are an advantage.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
