Underground Mine Technician

About the role

The Underground Mine Technician provides general support to the geological technical services department at OceanaGold's Waihi underground gold mine. The role involves hands‑on work underground, sample handling, and assistance to multiple technical teams while adhering to strict safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Comply with all site safe work practices and instructions.
• Sample and photograph core at underground and surface core‑logging facilities.
• Assist geologists with underground mapping and ore‑control duties.
• Collect, collate, transport and dispatch samples to the analytical laboratory.
• Store samples and maintain sample‑handling records.
• Photograph underground development and support creation of 3D scans.
• Monitor consumable stocks for ore‑control activities.
• Maintain vehicles and equipment used in duties.
• Support the Geotechnical department with pull testing, MBPX and seismic monitoring.
• Assist the Survey department with CALS operations and other tasks.
• Provide assistance to the Engineering department on underground projects as required.

Required profile

• Suitable physical fitness for underground work.
• Basic computer competency with the Microsoft Office suite.
• Full, current driver’s licence with manual transmission capability.
• Tertiary degree in Geology preferred but not essential.
• Previous experience in mining operations preferred.
• Understanding of geological processes preferred.
