About the role
Join Veolia Water New Zealand as a Treatment Operator, responsible for operating and maintaining water and wastewater treatment plants and networks across the southern Ruapehu District. Based in Ohakune, you will ensure safe, high‑quality water services for local communities.
Key responsibilities
- Operate and maintain water and wastewater treatment plants in line with resource consent conditions and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and maintain water, wastewater and stormwater networks across Ohakune, Raetihi, Rangataua, National Park, Whakapapa and Waiouru.
- Provide first‑response to network breakdowns, water leaks and wastewater blockages.
- Complete real‑time administration via tablet to ensure KPI compliance.
- Participate in the after‑hours on‑call roster.
- Contribute to Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
- Build strong relationships with colleagues, clients and customers.
Required profile
- A qualification in a water discipline (e.g., National Certificate in Water Treatment) preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Willingness to work towards relevant qualifications.
- Previous experience in water and/or wastewater treatment is advantageous.
- Background in service delivery, trades or network operations valued.
Required skills
- Practical, hands‑on problem‑solving ability.
- Capability to work autonomously with a high degree of initiative.
- Accurate digital record‑keeping using tablet‑based data entry.
- Network monitoring of water, wastewater and stormwater systems.
