Transport Operations Centre Operator (Rotating Shifts)

About the role

Join the Wellington Transport Operations Centre as a Transport Operations Centre Operator. You will help keep New Zealand’s transport network running safely and reliably by monitoring events, responding to incidents, and providing timely traveller information.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor the transport network across urban and rural areas, detecting both planned and unplanned events.
• Respond to incidents reported by emergency services, ensuring route reliability and safety.
• Provide accurate, relevant, and timely information to road users.
• Support the management of the transport system through effective communication with stakeholders.
• Work within a rotating 24/7 shift roster, initially with a buddy and later independently.

Required profile

• Solid customer‑service experience; call‑centre or traffic‑management background is a plus.
• Ability to multitask, prioritise workload and stay resilient under pressure.
• Flexibility to adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
• Strong communication and relationship‑management skills.
• Confidence using technology and multiple systems.
• Willingness to obtain and maintain a police security clearance.
• Interest in learning about Te Ao Māori, tikanga, Te Reo Māori and the Treaty of Waitangi.
