Trainee or Phlebotomist – Patient Services (Full‑time, Wellington)

About the role
Awanui Labs is seeking an enthusiastic Trainee or qualified Phlebotomist to join its Patient Services department in Wellington. This permanent, full‑time position involves providing high‑quality specimen collection and patient care across multiple collection hubs, including both community and hospital settings.
Key responsibilities
- Collect blood samples from patients in community and hospital environments.
- Handle and manage biological specimens such as blood, faeces, urine, and tissue in line with safety and compliance standards.
- Accurately label, handle, and transport patient specimens.
- Support laboratory processing and testing of specimens.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold quality standards at all times.
Required profile
- Methodical approach with strict adherence to quality procedures.
- Customer‑focused attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
- Sound knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory operations (desirable but not essential).
- Diploma in Applied Science or a Bachelor of Science (advantageous but not required).
- Registration with the Medical Science Council and an annual practising certificate (desirable but not required).
- Valid New Zealand driver’s licence and eligibility to work in New Zealand.
