Technical Lead – Planning

About the role

GHD is seeking an experienced planner to lead technical planning activities on medium to large infrastructure projects across New Zealand. Based in Wellington or Auckland, you will join a national team of engineers, scientists and environmental specialists dedicated to sustainable outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Act as Planning Lead on multi‑disciplinary projects, coordinating planning, environmental assessment and stakeholder engagement.
• Oversee the quality of technical deliverables and conduct peer reviews.
• Manage moderately complex projects, including financial and programme management, to ensure a positive client experience.
• Lead proposal development and pursue business development opportunities with existing and new clients.
• Mentor junior planners and contribute to the growth of GHD’s infrastructure planning practice.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 12 years of planning experience, preferably in infrastructure.
• Full membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI).
• Proven consultancy background with strong client‑management and business‑development experience.
• Analytical, proactive and decisive with excellent problem‑solving abilities.
